Quilting Instructions

Quilt Top

This is the first step of putting a quilt together.  This is the step that takes the most thought process to design how you would like the outcome of your quilt to look.  Typically, many utilize a pattern to make many squares, then these squares are sewn together to create a large top of a quilt.  There are so many designs to put together to create these beautiful works of art.

Quilt Batting

The middle of a quilt is filled with cotton or polyester batting.  This is to assist in warmth or look of your quilt.  This layer is added after the quilt top is created and the batting is cut a little larger than the quilt top.  This assures that during the quilting process there is enough batting to cover the full inside of the finished quilt.
Quilt Backing

The back of the quilt helps sandwich in the batting and provides a nice finish of the back of the quilt.  You want to make sure the back is showing on the edges about 5 inches around the perimeter of the quilt to assure when quilting, there is no shortage of fabric.  When putting all three layers together, you want to lay the quilt backing face down, then layer the quilt batting, then layer the quilt top.  Utilize quilt pins or adhesive in between the layers to hold your quilt in place for the quilting process.
